Bereavement

Holy Family Bereavement Ministry

Holy Family’s Bereavement Minister bring spiritual and emotional support to those who are grieving the loss of a loved one.

Upon notice of death, ministers are assigned as a team to the family of the deceased.  They contact the family to offer support during the time immediately following a death and after friends and family have gone home.   Bereavement Ministers may attend wakes, vigil services and funeral masses.   They offer, on behalf of the parish, spiritual and emotional support to help the family deal with their loss.  Bereavement ministers provide the spiritual support which is so vital to the family and is the exclusive focus of the Bereavement Team members.

Bereavement ministers participate in mandatory training on the teachings of the Catholic Church with specific focus on current Church teachings about death and dying.  This training is on-going to all active members of the Team.

Funeral Liturgy
The funeral liturgies follow the norm of the Order of Christian Funerals:  Vigil, Mass, burial.  They are done in light of good liturgical sensibilities, both beautiful and meaningful even to those unchurched or of another faith.  Volunteers are needed to assist with the funeral liturgy.
